Task 3 – Delete and Block Adware and Spyware

If you don’t have a virus, your computer may be slowed by adware and spyware. These programs, at a minimum, use up resources as they continually generate annoying ads, or track and report information to their home servers on the internet.

All of this activity takes away from your computers resources, slowing it down. You may not notice a performance issue with a couple, but if you get enough, the performance hit can be great.

If you are not taking steps to implement security for your PC, you may be overwhelmed by large numbers of spyware and adware. These are often downloaded from the Internet without the your knowledge. This is particularly true for those sites where you download videos and music. Be sure to stick to well known and reputable sites.

If you think this is a minor problem, consider one of my friends who was having a terrible time with his PC.  He was continually interrupted with pop up ads. His PC had become so slow it took 10-12 minutes just to boot up.

The source of the problem was he had no security in place and had accumulated over 1,300 various adwares and spywares!  It took several difficult days to get his PC back to normal.

To maintain or improve your PC’s speed you must use an anti-spyware or anti-adware program to scan, remove, and block adware or spyware from being  downloaded to your PC.   As in my previous post (Task 2),  ZoneAlarm fills the bill.   Scanning for Spyware is just another of the many talents found in ZoneAlarm and is another reason it is one of my top favorite programs for PC security.

Most anti spyware or adware software programs have a free trial version which you can try out before your buy. It is not a bad idea to see how it works.   The main things to consider are Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and the overall effectiveness of the software.
